    DAY TRIPS & HISTORICAL ATTRACTIONS

Take a day trip to a historical attraction or two!

Staffordshire is home to many historical attractions. If you’re a keen history buff, you can take a tour of the Sandon Hall estate and then head on to nearby Shugborough Hall, another stately home with a rich history.

For a day trip, Reeves Cottages is a stone’s throw from the nearby market towns of Stone, Stafford or Uttoxeter, many of which still operate farmers’ markets on set days, or explore a museum such as The Museum Of Cannock Chase. The local Staffordshire County Showground hosts events all year round, including their annual county show, antique fairs and animal shows. Pottery and china lovers will enjoy the Wedgewood Tour, and locomotive enthusiasts can take in the steam railway at Churnet Valley.

    EXPLORE THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Enjoy some of the great national parks and winding canals of England

If you’re keen to get your heart pumping and your blood flowing with some outdoor activity, then you have plenty of options in the area. Staffordshire and the Sandon Hall estate are great for countryside wanders, with lots of trails and hills for hiking close by.

Keen cyclists can follow the network of cycle paths that have replaced historic train routes, like the Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway and South Staffordshire Railway. There are easy paths for families with small children, plus challenging routes for athletic types.

If you would like to explore the local waterways, you can hire a boat and take a trip along the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal or Trent & Mersey Canal. You can also explore by canoe or kayak, or take a trip in a narrowboat, or simply wander the walkways alongside the canal.

If you’re keen on seeing nature in both its wild and cultivated glory then you can visit Trentham Gardens, with its manicured lawns and stunning flower beds, then head to the Peak District for horse riding, caving, or a meditative wander of the open space and verdant hills.

    FOOD & DRINK

    Eat, drink and be merry

Both of our luxury rentals are newly renovated with all the modern conveniences of home, to make your stay as easy and comfortable as possible.

The Agency and Reeves Cottages have well equipped kitchens so you can rustle up all kinds of dishes using ingredients from the nearby farmers’ markets. The market towns are well stocked with local meats, farm-fresh fruits and vegetables and home-made dishes you can pop in the oven.

If you don’t fancy cooking, the Sandon Hall estate has several country pubs nearby, including favourites like Bear in Stone, The Green Man in Milwich or The Spotgate Inn in Hilderstone.

If you’re in the mood for something a little more refined than pub grub, Sandon Hall offers luxury afternoon teas in the main house, or delivered to The Agency, so you can enjoy a special treat in the luxury and comfort of your accommodation.

    FAIRS, FESTIVALS & FAMILY FUN

Adventurous days out with the kids and fun activities for groups of friends

There’s plenty to do in Staffordshire, whether you are on holiday as a couple, with family or as a group of friends. You can keep track of events at Sandon Hall via our What’s On page. During your visit, you may find local book and food festivals and drive-in movie screenings. Nearby destinations also host plant and craft fairs. Market towns often host them alongside farmer’s markets while some local estates and gardens become sensational showgrounds for all kinds of local wares.

For families with younger children, there are plenty of adventure parks, such as Go Ape, and kid-friendly wild walks, such as Trentham Monkey Forest, home to free-roaming Barbary macaques. For older kids and adults who love a theme park, Alton Towers and Drayton Manor Park are a short drive away, perfect for a day trip.
